Aaron Hirsh is a writer and biologist with strong interests in education, evolution, and the environment. He is a research affiliate in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, at the University of Colorado, and board chair for Ecology Project International. His essays have appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The International Herald Tribune, various literary periodicals, and The Best American Science Writing. His scientific work has been published in Science, Nature, PNAS, and a number of other journals. Aaron's first book, Telling Our Way to the Sea, was published by FSG in 2013. It received the National Outdoor Book Award for Natural History writing, and was a finalist for the William Saroyan International Prize. He is now working on a book about the history of Earth. Aaron holds a BA from Princeton and a PhD from Stanford.
